Dr. Bob McLaughlin moved to Yakima in 1967. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from Central WA University and a Doctorate from Washington State University. He served as a teacher, Vice-Principal and later Principal at Davis High School, and the first Director of Yakima Technical Skills Center. He opened up the high school locker rooms two days a week early allowing homeless students a chance to shower. Bob and his wife, Carolynn, then served a mission for the LDS Church in Tonga. He taught college classes to teachers on three islands as an adjunct professor for BYU-Hawaii. They raised four children and an eight-year-old Native American boy, who graduated from Davis High School and later died on the streets from alcoholism. Bob and his wife served meals to homeless persons through his church on Saturdays for many months and provided evening meals to the Winter Weather Emergency Shelters.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
